Morocco Plans to Cull 3 Million Dogs Before 2030 FIFA World Cup

Morocco, which will help host the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal, has announced plans to kill up to three million stray dogs. The reason for this decision is to make the country more appealing to tourists. However, this move has faced strong criticism from animal protection groups and people worldwide.

The reports say that Morocco’s authorities are using very harsh and possibly illegal methods to get rid of the stray dogs. Some of these include poisoning the dogs with a dangerous substance, shooting them in public places, and hitting them to death with tools.

The International Animal Welfare and Protection Coalition has raised concerns, warning that three million dogs might be killed as part of this plan. Jane Goodall, a well-known animal expert, has called for FIFA to step in and stop the killings. She wrote a letter urging FIFA to take action and even suggested that the World Cup be moved if the killings continue.

Although Morocco has laws that protect street dogs, these laws are not always followed. Many animal protection groups are offering kinder solutions, like catching, neutering, vaccinating, and releasing the dogs, but they face many challenges. Shelters are getting overcrowded, and resources are running low.

FIFA has not yet made an official statement, but they are reportedly watching the situation in Morocco and checking the venues for the World Cup.

Many people around the world are asking Morocco to stop killing the dogs and use better methods to control the stray dog population. They want Morocco to treat animals with care and respect the global standards for animal welfare.
