Arilah 60ft Dhow Sailing Race Set to Thrill Abu Dhabi Waters

Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, the Arilah 60ft dhow sailing race will happen on January 25, 2025, in Abu Dhabi. This event is an important part of the season and celebrates the UAE’s old traditions linked to the sea.

The Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club is organizing the race. It is part of this year’s traditional racing schedule, which aims to protect and celebrate the UAE’s history and culture. The race helps to keep the skills and stories of the past alive for future generations.

This is the third race of the season for the 60ft dhow category. The race will cover 28 nautical miles, starting at Khalifa Port and ending at the flagpole on Abu Dhabi Corniche. Over 90 dhows are expected to take part, and each dhow will have a team of 20 skilled sailors. These sailors will work together to show their amazing skills and teamwork, which are important parts of UAE’s seafaring traditions.

Prizes will be given to the winners of the race. The first, second, and third-place teams will each win a car. These prizes show how special this event is and how much the UAE values the hard work of the participants.

The race will bring together dhow owners, captains, and sailors from all over. It is not just about winning but also about showing the UAE’s history and making people proud of their heritage. The event is a great way to teach younger generations about the old ways of sailing and life at sea.
