Three late goals from Amad Diallo gave Manchester United an unexpected 3-1 victory over Southampton in the Premier League on Thursday. The win came despite a poor performance from United, who were trailing 1-0 until the final minutes of the match.
United were expected to bounce back against the struggling Southampton team, but they were not playing well. Southampton deservedly took the lead with an own goal from United’s Manuel Ugarte just before halftime.
In the second half, United picked up the pace. Diallo scored the equalizer with eight minutes left, and in the 90th minute, he completed the turnaround with another goal. His hat-trick was finished off in stoppage time, giving United a flattering 3-1 win.

This victory brought United up to 12th in the league, with 26 points from 21 games. Southampton, however, stayed in last place with only six points and were still 10 points away from safety.
United have shown some improvement under their new coach, Ruben Amorim, but they came into this match looking to avoid their fourth straight home league defeat, which would have been their worst run since 1934.
In the first half, United looked out of sorts. Alejandro Garnacho, making his first league start in over a month, missed a good chance, and Southampton had the better opportunities. United goalkeeper Andre Onana made a great double save, first stopping Tyler Dibling’s shot and then denying Mateus Fernandes’ follow-up.
United were lucky not to concede more before halftime, but just before the break, Ugarte scored an own goal from a corner, giving Southampton a deserved 1-0 lead.
After the break, United played better and began creating more chances. Substitute Antony missed a great opportunity from close range, and it seemed like another frustrating game was on the cards for the hosts.
Then, Diallo stepped in to save the day. His equalizing goal came with a bit of luck, but his second goal, in the 90th minute, was perfectly set up by Christian Eriksen and finished beautifully by Diallo. His hat-trick goal came in stoppage time, taking advantage of Southampton’s mistake in defense.
Diallo, at 22, became the second youngest player to score a Premier League hat-trick for United, after Wayne Rooney. He also became only the third player in Premier League history to score three goals in the last 10 minutes of a game.
This was United’s first win in normal time in seven matches across all competitions. While the win was important, the performance left the fans at Old Trafford feeling unsatisfied.
