UP woman dies by suicide after waiting for pet cat to return to life

A 32-year-old woman from Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, tragically took her own life after the death of her pet cat. Pooja, a resident of Hasanpur in Amroha, was deeply affected by the loss of her beloved cat. The animal died on Thursday, but Pooja couldn’t bear to bury it. She kept the cat’s body with her for two whole days, hoping that somehow the pet might come back to life. When that didn't happen, her grief led to a heartbreaking decision.

Pooja had been living with her mother after a divorce. Eight years ago, she married a man from Delhi, but they separated after two years of marriage. The emotional pain from her broken marriage led her to adopt the cat for companionship. The bond they shared was strong, and the loss of her pet shattered her.

When Pooja’s mother suggested burying the cat, Pooja refused, believing that the animal might return to life if given enough time. Despite her mother’s gentle efforts to persuade her, Pooja refused to part with the body. She waited for a miracle, but as the hours passed, it became clear that her cat would not come back.

On Saturday evening, after two days of waiting, Pooja locked herself in a room on the third floor of their house. Concerned, her mother knocked on the door at around 8 pm to check on her. When she entered the room, she was devastated to find her daughter hanging from the ceiling fan, with the lifeless body of the cat nearby. Her screams alerted the neighbors, who quickly rushed to the house and called the police.

The police arrived at the scene and gathered forensic evidence. Investigations into the matter are still ongoing. Pooja’s tragic decision has left her family and community heartbroken, highlighting the deep emotional toll that the loss of a pet can have on an individual.
