His Excellency Yousef Abdullah Al Batran, a Board Member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, said, “The Jiu-Jitsu President’s Cup is the biggest test for UAE athletes. It helps them see how much they have improved and prepares them for international competitions. The Adults and Under-21 categories have many strong and experienced fighters, making the event even more exciting. We want to provide a top-quality championship that pushes our athletes to be their best.”
Unlike other jiu-jitsu tournaments that separate fighters by belt color, this championship follows an open belt system. This means that athletes with different belt levels fight in the same category. This system allows less experienced fighters to learn from more advanced athletes and improve their skills.
The official weigh-ins for the tournament took place on March 19 and 20 in different locations, including Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi, ADMA Mirdif in Dubai, and Al Nahyaniya Hall in Al Ain. The weigh-ins were open from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM to give athletes time to confirm their weight.
Many top fighters from leading clubs and academies in the UAE are taking part in the tournament. Every athlete has been training hard for weeks to prepare for this event. The competition is tough, and every match is important. Clubs are trying to earn points and secure the top position in the standings. The first round of matches will set the tone for the rest of the championship.
Mahmoud Al Sayed, Director of the Jiu-Jitsu Academy at Al Wahda Club, said, “Our athletes are fully ready to defend our title. We have worked hard in training, and we believe in our skills. Al Wahda Club has a strong name in jiu-jitsu, and we want to continue that legacy. The competition will be very strong, but we are focused and determined to give our best and make our club proud.”
Last year, Al Wahda Club won the men’s title, while Baniyas Club finished in second place, and Al Ain Club came in third. This year, all teams are competing with great energy to win the championship.
With the first round now started, excitement is high among fans, athletes, and organizers. The Jiu-Jitsu President’s Cup is a key event that helps grow the sport in the UAE and prepares local fighters for success in international competitions.
