Ras Al Khaimah, UAE – February 20, 2026:
RAK Ports has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with APT Global for a landmark investment aimed at strengthening Ras Al Khaimah’s project cargo and heavy-lift ecosystem.
The agreement supports the ongoing development of Saqr 2.0, RAK Ports’ greenfield port expansion designed to accommodate increasing regional and international trade volumes. Under the MoU, APT Global will invest approximately AED 50 million to develop a 700,000 square foot fabrication facility within RAK Maritime City. Following the expansion, the company’s total footprint in the emirate will grow to around 2 million square feet.
Expansion into Offshore and Renewables
The new facility will enable APT Global to diversify its operations into offshore fabrication, renewable energy infrastructure, shipbuilding, and oil and gas construction projects. The company is targeting export markets in Europe, the United States, and Far East Asia.
The fabrication yard’s location within RAK Maritime City Free Zone offers direct access to deepwater berths, dedicated logistics corridors, and quayside-adjacent assembly zones. This configuration provides a significant logistical advantage, particularly for the handling and export of oversized and out-of-gauge structures.
Strategic Alignment with Saqr 2.0
The development aligns closely with the objectives of Saqr 2.0, which is designed to create an integrated heavy-lift and project cargo hub. The upgraded port infrastructure includes a draft of approximately 14 metres and connectivity to nearly 65 million square feet of free zone land within a 4-kilometre radius.
The project also benefits from 50-metre-wide unobstructed road corridors connecting industrial plots directly to the port, facilitating efficient transport of large-scale fabricated structures. Strategically positioned assembly pads located within 500 metres of the port further support last-mile assembly and export operations.
According to Roy Cummins, CEO of RAK Ports, the agreement reflects the authority’s long-term strategy to position Ras Al Khaimah as a leading hub for project cargo logistics. He noted that Saqr 2.0 infrastructure can accommodate single shipments of up to 35,000 metric tonnes via heavy-lift facilities and streamlined port connectivity.
Anil Abraham, CEO of APT Global, described the MoU as a strategic milestone that reinforces the company’s commitment to the UAE as a base for advanced marine and offshore fabrication. He stated that the new facility will enhance APT’s scale and ESG-driven capabilities while supporting the UAE’s “Made in Emirates” initiative and broader industrial sustainability goals.
Industrial Growth Momentum
The partnership underscores Ras Al Khaimah’s growing role in large-scale manufacturing and industrial exports. By integrating fabrication, assembly, and port logistics within a single ecosystem, the Saqr 2.0 project aims to reduce turnaround times, improve cost efficiencies, and attract global industrial players to the emirate.
The investment is expected to contribute to job creation, boost export capacity, and further position Ras Al Khaimah as a competitive maritime and industrial hub in the region.
