The main focus of the discussions will be about fixing water problems worldwide and making sure clean water and sanitation are available for everyone. This is important because many people around the world still don’t have access to clean water or proper sanitation.
The event started with speeches from important leaders. Abdulla Ahmed Balalaa, the UAE’s Assistant Minister for Energy and Sustainability, and Cheikh Tidiane Dieye, Senegal’s Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation, both spoke about how their countries are working together to prepare for the conference. They want the event to be a success and help bring the world together to solve water problems.
Balalaa talked about how water has been a big part of the UAE’s history and future. He said that the UAE is ready to support efforts to solve global water issues by sharing knowledge, working with other countries, investing in solutions, and using new technology.
Dieye also said that the 2026 conference is a big moment for everyone. He explained that now is the time to take real action to solve water and sanitation problems, not just talk about it. He said it’s important to make sure everyone is included in the process and that their ideas are heard. He also pointed out that water problems affect all countries, making food security, health, and stability harder.
Both the UAE and Senegal invited governments, organizations, NGOs, and people from all over the world to join the effort to solve water problems. They want everyone to work together to increase action and speed up progress in solving water issues.
Even though there has been some progress, there are still big problems. Right now, 2.2 billion people don’t have clean drinking water, 3.5 billion people don’t have safe sanitation, and 4 billion people face water shortages at least one month every year.
Li Junhua, a UN official, and Alvaro Lario, from UN Water, were also at the meeting. They joined 72 other people from 26 groups, including the UN, NGOs, civil society, and businesses. This meeting is an important step in preparing for the 2026 UN Water Conference, where leaders will work together to find solutions to the world’s water problems.
