His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah, came to open the event at the Heart of Sharjah. He was welcomed with happy songs and dances by traditional Emirati groups. They performed famous cultural dances like Al Nadba, Al Ayala, Al Harbiya, and Al Habban. The performances filled the air with energy and excitement.
For more than twenty years, Sharjah Heritage Days has been a special event for people who love history and traditions. It shows how Sharjah works hard to protect its culture and share it with the world. This year, there are three main exhibitions. The first one, "Roots," takes visitors back in time to see how people lived in old Sharjah, including their daily life, work, and customs. The second, "The Journey of Perfumes," tells the story of perfumes from ancient Egypt to modern times. The third, "A Century of Libraries," talks about the history of Al Qasimia Library and how it has helped people learn for a hundred years.
This year, the festival is not only in Sharjah City but also in six other places: Khorfakkan, Mleiha, Al Dhaid, Kalba, Dibba Al Hisn, and Al Hamriyah. Each place will have different activities like folk dances, traditional crafts, and fun learning workshops. A new event space has been added, and this year also celebrates 100 years of the first library in Sharjah. A book market is set up with 12 libraries and six publishing houses. More than 150 craftsmen from different countries will show their skills. Also, the biggest Al Ayala dance performance in the UAE will take place, with more than 300 artists joining.
Visitors will enjoy different cultural activities, such as folk music, stage plays, and artistic performances. Some of the main shows include "Arqoub Dates" and "Island of Wishes." A special music show called "Palm Symphony" will take place, and a parade of camels and horses will add to the excitement. There will also be a movie screening, an art memorial for Al Ayala, and a World Heritage Kitchen where visitors can taste food from different countries.
A special cultural café will host talks about Emirati history and traditions. Famous writers and researchers will join discussions on different topics. There will be 14 discussion sessions, 15 book signings, and 15 new book releases. The Sharjah Institute for Heritage has also planned educational workshops, including calligraphy, book repair, and traditional paper-cutting. Experts from UNESCO will join talks about Arab heritage. A fashion event called "Fashion Roots" will display clothes inspired by traditional styles.
The Emirati Crafts Centre will display 33 different crafts and offer 12 training workshops. Competitions will be held for workers from the Sharjah Institute for Heritage. The International Storytelling School will have live storytelling sessions, including "Box of Wonders," "Sugar Dolls," and "House of Wisdom Map." There will also be interactive areas where visitors can enjoy theatre performances, educational activities for kids, and spaces for young artists to display their work. Other activities include painting, traditional games, sand art, and public workshops.
The event will have many music and dance performances from different countries. The Sharjah National Band will present famous Emirati dances like Al Ayala, Nuban, Andima, Harbiya, Liwa, Rawah, Dan, Habban, Razif, Al Nadba, Al Naham, and Al Aza. Groups from Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Yemen will also perform. Guests from Georgia and Russia will bring their own cultural performances.
Many countries are taking part in Sharjah Heritage Days this year. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, including the UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain, are represented. Other Arab countries like Morocco, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Tunisia, Algeria, and Lebanon are also part of the festival.
Many important people came to the opening event. These include Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Sheikh Khalid bin Issam Al Qasimi, Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Sheikh Majid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Sheikha Nawar bint Ahmed Al Qasimi, and Sheikh Salem bin Mohammed bin Salem Al Qasimi. Many other leaders, cultural experts, and special guests were also there.
Sharjah Heritage Days is a beautiful celebration of history and traditions. It brings people together to learn about the past, enjoy music and art, and take part in fun activities. The event is a chance to experience Emirati and world heritage in an exciting and meaningful way.
