Hamdan bin Zayed sponsors 16th Al Dhafra Maritime Festival

Under the care of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the 16th Al Dhafra Maritime Festival will happen from February 14 to 23, 2025, on the shores of Al Mugheirah, Al Dhafra, Abu Dhabi.

The event is run by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority and Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club. It is made to honor the UAE’s sea history, keep its culture alive, and bring people closer to their roots. The festival will allow locals and visitors to enjoy sea traditions through many fun water and land activities.

There will be many water races, such as the Marwah Dhow sailing race (43ft), Al Dhafra rowing race (40ft), Tafrees pole boat race, kitesurfing, Al Mugheirah rowing race, Salaha sailing race (Banoosh boats), Al Dhafra Regatta, stand-up paddleboarding, and the Jananah dhow sailing race (22ft). These races will show the deep sea history of the UAE and let skilled racers take part.

Besides water sports, the festival will also have land games like carrom and dominoes, a cycling race, a running race, beach soccer, and beach volleyball. People can also try old Emirati games such as Al Mtareh, Al Dahrouy, Al Sha', and Karabi. These games help keep UAE’s traditions alive and let people learn about its past.

A big part of the festival is the Traditional Market, which will open every day from 4 PM to 10 PM. Here, visitors can buy local handmade things and see Gulf culture. The market will also have fun programs at the Noukhatha House and the Children’s Village. There will be folk fashion shows, cooking contests, and other hands-on activities for all age groups.

The main stage will host daily shows, cultural performances, and fun challenges. People can watch traditional arts, music concerts, and horse shows. These events will make the festival more exciting and enjoyable for everyone.

The Al Dhafra Maritime Festival is a great way to keep Emirati culture strong and bring people together. It gives everyone a chance to celebrate sea traditions, learn about UAE’s past, and enjoy life by the sea, just like in old times.
