Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said the ceasefire in Gaza will end if Hamas does not release hostages by Saturday noon. He warned that if the hostages are not freed, the Israeli army will start fighting again until Hamas is defeated.

Hamas has replied, saying it still wants to keep the ceasefire and blaming Israel for putting the truce in danger. Hamas said it will only release hostages if Israel follows the agreement.

Netanyahu’s statement came after a meeting with important ministers in defense, foreign affairs, and national security. He said they all agreed with his decision.

Since January 19, when the ceasefire started, Hamas has been freeing hostages little by little. But on Monday, Hamas said it will not release any more hostages for now. It accused Israel of breaking the deal.

It is not clear if Netanyahu wants all the hostages in Gaza to be released or just the three who were supposed to be freed on Saturday.

The US president has also asked Hamas to release all the hostages by Saturday.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu has ordered the Israeli army to send more soldiers to the Gaza border. The military later confirmed that more troops, including reservists, are being sent to the south.

A Hamas leader rejected the warnings from Israel and the US. He said the ceasefire must be respected by both sides. He also said that hostages will only be returned if Israel keeps its promise.

Hamas has blamed Israel for breaking the ceasefire by shooting people, stopping aid trucks, and not letting displaced people return home. Israel has denied this and said it only shot people who ignored warnings to stay away from soldiers.

Under the ceasefire deal, Hamas has released 16 of the 33 hostages. Five Thai hostages were also freed unexpectedly. In return, Israel has released hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, including people serving life sentences and others who were arrested during the war.

A group representing the families of Israeli hostages has asked Netanyahu to keep the ceasefire deal so that more hostages can be saved. They said that if the war starts again, the hostages may be in even more danger.

Reports say there are still 76 hostages in Gaza, and at least 35 of them may have died.

The war has caused huge losses. Gaza’s health officials say over 48,000 Palestinians have died, and almost all of the 2.3 million people living in Gaza have been forced to leave their homes.
