France's National Rally (RN) party appears poised to seize control of the country’s parliament from the centrists in upcoming elections. Party leader Marine Le Pen has outlined her vision to reshape France along far-right principles amidst significant domestic and international policy shifts.

Following a victory in the first round of elections on June 30, RN is expected to triumph in the second round scheduled for Saturday. French President Emmanuel Macron's centrist coalition, which called for snap elections, faces a daunting challenge.

In an interview with CNN, Le Pen asserted her stance on foreign affairs, emphasizing that she would prohibit Ukraine from using French-supplied weaponry against Russia. She also vowed to block any deployment of French troops to Ukraine, underscoring her belief that the Prime Minister should have the final say in such matters, contrasting sharply with the President's authority in defense and foreign affairs.

Le Pen clarified her position on supporting Ukraine while delineating two key red lines: preventing France from becoming a "co-belligerent" in the conflict and refraining from sending troops to Ukrainian territory. She condemned Russia's actions, labeling them as violations of Ukraine's sovereignty and advocating consistent support for Ukraine, except where her red lines are concerned.

This stance diverges sharply from Macron's more assertive approach, which includes not ruling out troop deployments and allowing Ukrainian strikes against Russian targets. Macron has characterized Russia's invasion of Ukraine as the gravest threat to European security since World War II, warning of broader implications if Russian aggression goes unchecked.

In addition to her foreign policy positions, Le Pen has proposed stringent measures on immigration, advocating an end to automatic citizenship for children born to foreign parents in France. RN also seeks to restrict citizenship through naturalization and limit access to certain social services for foreigners, prioritizing French nationals.

The rise of far-right parties across Europe, driven by concerns over illegal immigration and perceived failures of centrist and leftist governments, underscores the broader political shifts underway on the continent.
