The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) and The Authority of Social Contribution - Ma’an have forged a strategic partnership at Arab Health 2024 aimed at establishing a robust scientific research and development fund in Abu Dhabi. The agreement, signed by Her Excellency Salama Al Ameemi, Director General of Ma’an, and Her Excellency Dr Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of DoH, underscores their commitment to enhancing healthcare innovation and research in the emirate.
This pioneering initiative marks the region's first fund dedicated to mobilizing community and private sector contributions towards healthcare research and development. Over the next five years, the project aims to bolster research infrastructure, foster collaboration between academia and industry, and support innovative solutions addressing health challenges in Abu Dhabi and beyond. Priority areas include gene and cell therapy, cancer research, rare diseases, infectious diseases, neurological disorders, drug discovery, and advancements in medical data analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Her Excellency Salama Al Ameemi emphasized Ma’an's dedication to supporting sustainable healthcare solutions aligned with community needs, as part of Abu Dhabi's vision for economic development and enhanced public health services. The collaboration seeks to leverage Ma’an's role as Abu Dhabi's official platform for social contributions, ensuring transparent management and effective utilization of funds directed towards healthcare innovation.
Dr. Noura Al Ghaithi highlighted the initiative's alignment with Abu Dhabi's strategic goals to foster innovation and elevate healthcare standards. The partnership aims to strengthen clinical research capabilities, drive intellectual property advancements, and improve healthcare service quality, benefiting residents of Abu Dhabi and reinforcing the emirate's global healthcare standing.
Ma’an will oversee fundraising efforts, manage project logistics, and facilitate stakeholder coordination to ensure the initiative's success. The partnership also includes initiatives such as the AOUNAK health card for orphans and People of Determination, ensuring their healthcare access, and a medical transportation program supporting critically ill patients by reuniting them with their families.
This collaborative effort reflects Abu Dhabi's commitment to advancing healthcare services and promoting sustainable development, as part of its broader economic and social vision for 2030. It underscores Ma’an's role in driving community-focused initiatives and leveraging partnerships to address critical societal priorities in health, environment, infrastructure, and education.
