Heavy monsoon rains in western Nepal have resulted in devastating landslides, claiming the lives of at least nine people, including three children, authorities reported on Saturday. In Malika village, Gulmi district, about 250 km west of Kathmandu, a family of five perished as their home was swept away while they slept. Dizan Bhattarai, spokesperson for the National Disaster Rescue and Reduction Management Authority, confirmed the tragic incident, noting that the victims included two children, and all bodies have been recovered.

In neighboring Syangja district, another landslide claimed the lives of a woman and her three-year-old daughter after their house was engulfed. Meanwhile, in Baglung district, bordering Gulmi, two individuals lost their lives in a separate landslide. Since the onset of the monsoon season in mid-June, Nepal has witnessed a total of 35 fatalities due to landslides, floods, and lightning strikes, with rainfall expected to persist until mid-September.
Landslides and flash floods are recurring hazards in Nepal's mountainous terrain during the monsoon season, annually causing significant loss of life and property.
