Morocco and France Forge ‘Reinforced Exceptional Partnership’ Declaration

On October 29, His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco and His Excellency Emmanuel Macron, President of France, formalized their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations by signing a Declaration on “the reinforced exceptional partnership.” This agreement aims to enhance cooperation across various sectors to effectively address shared challenges faced by both nations.

During their meeting, the leaders engaged in comprehensive discussions focusing on joint actions at both bilateral and international levels. They reaffirmed the foundational principles guiding their collaboration, which include State-to-State relations, sovereign equality, non-interference in internal affairs and foreign policy decisions, and mutual respect for each country’s commitments.

To bolster political and strategic ties, several proposals were introduced, emphasizing the importance of economic development, social cohesion, and strategic autonomy for both Morocco and France. As part of this initiative, the two countries signed 22 cooperation agreements covering a wide array of sectors. These agreements include collaborations in energy, rail, air, and maritime transport, as well as investment promotion, education, agriculture, water management, culture, defense, and joint efforts in sports and major event organization.

The agreements are particularly significant in the context of upcoming international events, such as the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games and the preparations for the 2030 Football World Cup. This partnership reflects the mutual desire to create a robust framework for collaboration that not only addresses current needs but also anticipates future opportunities for both nations.
