Lumo, a pioneering taxi service in the UAE inherently focused on autonomous transport, has officially unveiled its new upscale robotaxi fleet in Abu Dhabi. This significant initiative is being realized with the collaboration of Mercedes-Benz, Momenta, and Lumo’s local operational expertise. Equipped with Momenta’s cutting-edge L4 autonomous driving technology, the robotaxis are based on the latest Mercedes-Benz S-Class, marking the first scalable luxury robotaxi built on a mass-produced vehicle of its kind.
The company aims to kick off its commercial operations in Abu Dhabi next year, with plans to eventually expand the robotaxi service to various international markets. This partnership intends to fuse top-tier engineering, state-of-the-art artificial intelligence, and robust local operations to redefine smart mobility experiences.
Faisal Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Bannai, Advisor to the UAE President for Strategic Research and Advanced Technology Affairs, emphasized the UAE's ideal environment for advancing future transport solutions. He commended the nation’s ambitious vision, swift development, and unwavering commitment to technology. He stated that this collaboration exemplifies the fusion of superior engineering and autonomous intelligence within a unified ecosystem.
Mercedes-Benz CTO Joerg Burzer shared that this collaboration is reshaping global mobility paradigms by launching luxury robotaxis centered on safety, comfort, and sophistication. He noted that the objective is to establish a new standard for intelligent transportation on a global scale.
Momenta CEO Xudong Cao elaborated that this coalition merges Mercedes-Benz’s rich engineering legacy, Momenta’s AI proficiency, and Lumo’s operational prowess. He conveyed that the robotaxi service, driven by Momenta’s R6 reinforcement learning model, strives to offer a safe, high-quality, and intelligent mobility experience for riders in the UAE and farther afield.
