These initiatives represent a transformative step forward in crucial strategic sectors, aligning closely with Abu Dhabi and the UAE’s economic priorities. They aim to translate advanced research and technological studies into practical applications that can significantly impact various industries.

The board engaged in a comprehensive review of ATRC’s five-year strategic vision, assessing progress in diverse research fields, evaluating ongoing projects, and approving the council’s budget plan for the upcoming years. This reinforces the UAE's ambition to position itself as a leading hub for research, development, and innovation.

Sheikh Khaled emphasized the importance of expediting technological advancements across key sectors, in alignment with the UAE’s National Innovation Strategy. He noted that research, development, and innovation are critical for fostering a knowledge-based economy and enhancing the UAE’s competitiveness on both regional and global fronts in research and technology.

The meeting underscored the need for continuous stewardship in advanced technology, focusing on developing national talent over the next five years. Special emphasis will be placed on emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, quantum technologies, radar systems, biotechnology, and clean energy. These fields are essential for driving technological excellence and securing the UAE’s leadership in research and innovation.

The board outlined key research and development priorities, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence and autonomous capabilities. Plans to expand research into AI-driven and autonomous solutions across various sectors—including transport, energy, healthcare, and public services—were discussed to enhance operational efficiency and service quality.

Additionally, the meeting highlighted the importance of investing in quantum technologies, focusing on advancing quantum computing, communications, and secure solutions. The discussion also covered radar technologies capable of providing high-precision imaging of topography and underground features, along with AI-powered radar systems for landmine detection in humanitarian efforts.

The council also concentrated on clean energy and sustainability, accelerating research into renewable energy innovations and energy-efficient technologies to support the UAE's Net Zero by 2050 agenda. Furthermore, the board recognized the importance of leveraging advancements in biotechnology and agritech to enhance agricultural productivity in arid environments and address global food security challenges.

The meeting included discussions about initiatives aimed at developing a skilled national workforce in STEM fields. The goal is to ensure the UAE remains at the forefront of technological innovation by nurturing home-grown talent and preparing future generations for leadership roles in advanced technology sectors.

His Excellency Faisal Abdulaziz Al Bannai, Adviser to the UAE President for Strategic Research and Advanced Technology Affairs and Secretary-General of the Advanced Technology Research Council, presented the budget proposal for the next five years. This proposal reflects a commitment to sustaining research excellence while exploring opportunities for public-private partnerships to enhance the scalability and commercial viability of innovative technologies. The budget review also focused on bolstering the council’s global collaborations, with investments earmarked for partnerships with international research institutions.

The board meeting was attended by prominent figures, including His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the President's Office for Strategic Affairs; His Excellency Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority; and His Excellency Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi.
