During the board meeting, which was held at Al Nakheel Palace, Sheikh Hamdan was briefed on EAD’s Strategy 2026-2030. This long-term plan focuses on strengthening Abu Dhabi’s role as a global leader in environmental research and resource management. It aims to reduce climate change risks, promote sustainable use of natural resources, and solidify Abu Dhabi’s position in global environmental initiatives. These steps will help the emirate become more resilient to environmental challenges while advancing impactful sustainability efforts worldwide.
Sheikh Hamdan highlighted the crucial role of educating young people about sustainability, ensuring that future generations continue to protect biodiversity, maintain clean air and water, and manage natural resources effectively. He reinforced that EAD remains the leading environmental regulatory authority in the Middle East, playing a key role in fostering awareness and action.
The meeting brought together several high-ranking officials, including Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Al Bowardi, Vice Chairman of EAD, and other distinguished leaders in government and environmental sectors. Their discussions focused on key environmental projects designed to enhance sustainability efforts in Abu Dhabi.
EAD presented its initiatives to expand mangrove planting and coral reef restoration, crucial for protecting marine ecosystems. The agency is also installing advanced nanobubble technology to improve seawater quality, strengthening its response to marine pollution incidents, and launching an odor monitoring network to detect and address air quality concerns. These initiatives highlight the importance of balancing development with environmental conservation to ensure a cleaner and greener future for Abu Dhabi.
Community engagement and environmental awareness were also key discussion points during the meeting. EAD’s Connect with Nature program has already reached 2.5 million young participants, inspiring them to engage with nature and learn about sustainability. The Sustainable Schools Initiative, which has enrolled over 560 schools across Abu Dhabi, continues to educate students about the importance of environmental stewardship. These programs reinforce EAD’s commitment to shaping responsible future leaders who will safeguard the environment for generations to come.
The board meeting reaffirmed EAD’s vital role in ensuring Abu Dhabi remains at the forefront of environmental sustainability. Through strong leadership, innovative projects, and active community participation, the agency continues to pave the way for a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for all.
