In his opening speech, Dr. Abdulla Humaid Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Department of Energy, said that the forum is an important platform for communication and cooperation among key players in the energy and water sectors. This is part of the department’s efforts to achieve the goals of the Abu Dhabi Energy and Water Strategy 2050. Dr. Al Jarwan mentioned how the government is focused on creating sustainable solutions that ensure the secure supply of energy and water. He also stressed the importance of collaboration between public and private organizations to help make this happen.

Dr. Al Jarwan also talked about the changes happening in Abu Dhabi’s energy sector, especially the shift toward renewable energy, which now makes up 45% of the emirate’s energy. This move strengthens Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a leader in clean energy. He also spoke about the progress in water desalination, with the use of reverse osmosis technology, which is expected to provide 80% of the city’s water by 2030. This will also help cut carbon emissions by 60%.

He pointed out that energy and water demand in Abu Dhabi is expected to double in the coming years. The government has already planned ahead for this growth with skilled workers, new technologies, and strong resources. This means Abu Dhabi is ready to meet these needs through innovation, operational efficiency, and major projects.

Dr. Al Jarwan emphasized the importance of working together to create new technologies and policies that will drive digital transformation in the energy and water sectors. He confirmed that the Department of Energy will continue to lead these efforts.

He concluded by saying that the future depends on balancing economic growth with sustainability. He invited key players from various sectors, including energy, water, technology, and business, to work together in achieving the vision for Abu Dhabi’s future. He mentioned that Abu Dhabi has a proven record of successful partnerships in the energy sector for over 70 years.

Eng. Ahmed Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Energy, also spoke about the significance of the forum. He said it helps realize the vision of the UAE’s leadership for sustainable growth in the energy and water sectors. He highlighted that working together across sectors is important to balance economic growth and environmental protection.

Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Secretary-General of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, talked about the role of the agency in supporting sustainability and climate goals. She mentioned that the agency is working to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 22% by 2027 and is focused on improving water management, such as recycling and monitoring water quality.

Jasim Husain Thabet, CEO of TAQA, discussed the UAE’s leadership in clean energy and the role of TAQA in driving this transformation. He mentioned the importance of partnerships and innovation in creating solutions for energy security and sustainability.

Mohammed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, said the forum is important for bringing together public and private sectors to achieve the goals of the Abu Dhabi Energy and Water Strategy 2050. He stressed that energy is essential for sustainable economic growth and that Masdar is committed to supporting this transformation.

Mohamed Al Hammadi, CEO of Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC), emphasized that nuclear energy plays a crucial role in providing clean and reliable electricity. He said ENEC is working to address energy challenges and support the UAE’s goal of reaching net-zero emissions.

Mohamed Al Marzooqi, Chief Asset Development Officer at EWEC, explained that the forum is key to shaping the future of the energy and water sectors. He said EWEC is focused on advancing the UAE’s energy transformation and ensuring water security.

Dr. Yousif Al Hammadi, Chief Asset Management Officer at Tabreed, praised the Department of Energy’s leadership and the importance of collaboration. He mentioned that Tabreed is committed to providing sustainable cooling solutions, which are essential as demand grows.

The forum also included workshops discussing six important topics. These included how to increase economic value from the energy and water sectors, how to speed up the move to clean energy, and how to balance energy needs with sustainability. The forum also focused on using technology, such as artificial intelligence, to improve the sector, and discussed the need for policies that encourage investment and sustainable growth.

In conclusion, the forum was a successful event that helped to bring together various organizations to discuss and find solutions to energy and water challenges. The goal is to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for all.
