Starting on March 1, Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad will see its first full-service airline flight with Air India Express launching daily services. This new addition to the airport will benefit travelers from the National Capital Region (NCR), including western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

At present, the only flights operating from Hindon are by Star Air, a regional carrier based in Bangalore. Star Air currently offers flights to Kalaburagi and Hubli, with services running three and four times a week, respectively. However, with the arrival of Air India Express, Hindon is about to become an even more important travel hub.

Air India Express will operate its first flight from Kolkata to Hindon on the morning of March 1, bringing a Boeing 737-8 aircraft. After this, daily flights will be operated using A320 aircraft. The same flight will then depart Hindon at 10:30 AM for Goa, landing there around 1:15 PM.

With this move, Air India Express will be the first airline in India to operate from two airports within the NCR. The airline will also offer direct flights to Bengaluru, Goa, and Kolkata from Hindon. This is similar to how IndiGo operates from both Goa’s old airport and the new MOPA airport, showing that having multiple airports in big cities can improve connectivity, provide more travel options, and help lower ticket prices.

Hindon Airport's convenient location makes it easier for people in NCR to access air travel. It also offers better options for travelers from western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, especially those who find it hard to get flights from Delhi’s busy airport. The terminal at Hindon, covering 22,050 square meters, is designed to handle 300 passengers per hour, with eight check-in counters and two conveyor belts.

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu is expected to officially inaugurate the Air India Express flight on Saturday, accompanied by other officials, including Civil Aviation Secretary Vumlunmang Vualnam, Airports Authority of India Chairman Vipin Kumar, and local politicians.

Hindon Civil Enclave is operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and shares its runway and air traffic control services with the Indian Air Force. Initially built to handle domestic flights under the government’s Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS), Hindon offers a great alternative for flights, especially for airlines that struggle to get slots at Delhi Airport due to its congestion.

Air India Express has already started booking tickets for its new services, with fares starting at ₹4,400 for flights from Hindon to Kolkata, ₹4,900 for Hindon to Goa, ₹5,500 for Kolkata to Hindon, ₹6,000 for Bengaluru to Hindon, and ₹6,200 for Hindon to Bengaluru. The inaugural flight is almost fully booked, showing the demand for flights from Hindon.

In addition, NCR travelers can look forward to another new option in the near future, as the Noida International Airport in Jewar is expected to open by the end of April or early May. This will provide even more travel choices for the people in the NCR region.
