West Ham won 2-0 against Leicester City at the London Stadium on Thursday night. Tomas Soucek scored the first goal in the 21st minute on his 30th birthday. Just before halftime, Jannik Vestergaard scored an own goal, giving West Ham a comfortable lead.

Leicester’s weak defense helped West Ham. Both goals happened because Leicester failed to clear the ball properly. The first goal came after Aaron Cresswell sent a cross into the box. Mohammed Kudus took a shot, but the goalkeeper saved it. However, Soucek reacted fast and kicked the ball into the net from close range.
The second goal came in the 43rd minute. Leicester captain Jamie Vardy tried to clear the ball from a corner but failed. Jarrod Bowen quickly took a shot from a tight angle. The ball hit Vestergaard and went into the goal. Though Bowen celebrated, it was counted as an own goal.
This was West Ham’s second win in a row under their new manager. Before these two wins, the team had lost three games and drawn one. The manager was happy with the performance and said, “We had to play differently today. We knew we would have more of the ball.”
With this win, West Ham moved up to 15th place in the table, going ahead of Everton. Leicester stayed in 19th place, five points away from safety.
Leicester is struggling under their manager. They have lost 11 of their last 12 league games. In 14 games under him, they have won only twice. Their remaining matches will be tough, as they still have to play Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Nottingham Forest.
West Ham played well in the first half. They attacked a lot from the right side, where Aaron Wan-Bissaka often tested Leicester’s left-back Victor Kristiansen. Leicester played a little better in the second half and tried to score, but West Ham defended strongly.
Leicester’s attack has been poor. They have now let in 12 goals in their last four games without scoring any. This has put more pressure on their manager. After the match, he said, “The players tried harder in the second half, but the damage was already done.”
When asked if he would still be the coach for the next game against Chelsea on March 9, he said, “I will keep working and moving forward.”
