French drug lord 'The Fly' feed in prison van ambush, 2 guards dead

Gunmen launched a brazen attack on a prison convoy in northern France, resulting in the tragic deaths of two guards and severe injuries to three others. The incident occurred at a toll booth in Incarville, Eure region, triggering a nationwide manhunt for the escaped drug dealer dubbed 'The Fly.'

The fugitive, identified as Mohamed Amra, a 30-year-old drug dealer with ties to the notorious "Blacks" gang in Marseille, had been held at Val de Reuil prison. He faced charges for burglary and an indictment for a kidnapping case leading to death in Marseille.

Footage on social media depicted gunmen wearing balaclavas near a burning SUV, which seemed to have rammed the prison van. Amra's lawyer indicated an attempted prison break earlier, suggesting premeditation.

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin initiated a large-scale manhunt, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. Justice Minister Éric Dupond-Moretti condemned the attack, vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The incident underscores the escalating threat of drug-related violence in Europe, as highlighted in a Senate report. With a significant rise in cocaine trafficking, France faces a dire situation, prompting calls for enhanced law enforcement measures.

Marseille's rampant gang violence has drawn attention to the urgent need for prison reform, including addressing overcrowding and security risks. France's prison guards unions called for solidarity and action to honor the fallen guards and address systemic issues in the justice system.
