Under the guidance and support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, the ‘Dubai Ruler’s Court Race’ for elite male cyclists will take place on 19 January. This event is being organised by the Private Office of His Highness and is part of the 9th Al Salam Cycling Championship, known as the world’s largest community cycling competition for its wide participation and high-value prizes.
The race, which covers a distance of 193 kilometres, will start at noon from the historic Al Fahidi District, right at His Highness the Ruler’s Court. The route will wind through several well-known landmarks in Dubai. Riders will pass by the Old Dubai Customs Building, the Ministry of Defence, Dubai Creek, Al Seef Street, Creek Park, Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dubai Frame, Za’abeel Park, Future Street, Dubai World Trade Centre, Emirates Towers, Museum of the Future, Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum Tower, and Za’abeel Palace. The race will end at the Al Marmoom Conservation Reserve.
The Supreme Organising Committee for the championship, led by His Excellency Omair bin Jumaa Al Falasi, who is also the Director General of the Private Office of His Highness, has ensured that all preparations are complete. The organisers are focused on maintaining the highest standards of safety and showcasing Dubai’s rich heritage and culture throughout the event.

Al Falasi highlighted the importance of starting the race from His Highness the Ruler’s Court, calling it a site that reflects Dubai’s growth and success. He added that the committee carefully includes key national landmarks in the routes of the race every year. For example, last year’s race began in Al Shindagha near Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum’s House, a place tied to Dubai’s modern history. Previous races have also featured locations like Hatta and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre.
On 17 January, the Supreme Organising Committee held a meeting with team managers of the participating cyclists to explain the race details, rules, and procedures. This year, the competition is limited to elite cyclists from the UAE and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
The 9th Al Salam Cycling Championship began in December with the ‘Sword of Honour’ Race, which was dedicated to amateur Emirati cyclists. This race also celebrated the achievements of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK. During the Sovereign’s Parade, he received two prestigious honours – the ‘International Sword’ for being the best international cadet and the International Award for excelling in military, academic, and practical studies. He is the first Emirati to earn both awards in the same year.
This year’s championship will also include the Desert Race on 9 February and the Women’s Race on 16 February.
The Al Salam Cycling Championship is organised with support from several key partners, including Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Sports Council, Dubai Sports TV, UAE Cycling Federation (acting as the General Referee for the race), and Dubai Film.
