Afghanistan Aims for Positive Ties with Newly-Elected Pakistan Government

Post by: Dr. Amrinder Pal Singh

In Kabul, Afghanistan, the government underscores the critical importance of maintaining positive relations with Pakistan, emphasizing the necessity of fostering improved ties with all neighboring countries, as reported by The News on Monday. Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Afghan government, urges Pakistan's newly-formed government to demonstrate flexibility in the deportation of Afghan refugees.

Expressing the Islamic Emirate's consistent pursuit of positive relationships with its neighbors, including Pakistan, Mujahid emphasizes Afghanistan's genuine need for constructive ties with Pakistan. He calls on the new Pakistani government to make progress in various sectors and urges them to address and solve any outstanding issues.

Last year, under the leadership of Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, the caretaker government in Pakistan announced its decision to expel 1.1 million foreigners illegally residing in the country. Afghanistan's Acting Prime Minister, Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund, has previously criticized what he terms the "cruel attitude of the Pakistan government authorities" toward Afghan refugees, stating that such actions create more problems than solutions.

Mujahid calls for flexibility on the issue of migrants, acknowledging Pakistan's historical role as a host to refugees. He suggests that going forward, Pakistan should consider Afghanistan's relations when dealing with migrant-related matters. Additionally, the spokesperson urges Pakistan's attention to various issues, including expanding relations, addressing challenges faced by Afghan traders, and addressing matters related to the Durand Line.

This diplomatic call for cooperation and understanding between Afghanistan and Pakistan highlights the complex dynamics surrounding refugee issues and the broader relationship between the two neighboring nations.
