Arsenal made a big comeback on Wednesday night, winning 3-0 against Real Madrid in the second leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final. This win helped them cancel out the 2-0 loss from the first leg and move to the semi-finals with a 3-2 score overall. Arsenal had to work hard after losing in Madrid, but they played very well at home, scoring all three goals in just 15 minutes of the second half. Now, they will play against Olympique Lyonnais, a strong French team that has won the Champions League eight times. Lyon had earlier beaten Bayern Munich to reach the semi-finals.

Alessia Russo was the hero for Arsenal, scoring two goals in the match. She said after the game that the win felt unreal and had not yet fully sunk in. Russo shared that the team believed in themselves all week and knew they had the power to win.
The first goal came just one minute after the second half started. Chloe Kelly, a player on loan from Manchester City, sent a perfect cross into the box, and Russo quickly tapped the ball into the net. This goal gave Arsenal hope. Three minutes later, Arsenal scored again. Mariona Caldentey jumped high to head in another great cross from Kelly, making the score 2-0. This goal made the game level on overall score and gave Arsenal the energy to push forward.
The most important goal came in the 59th minute when Russo hit a strong half-volley that sent the ball straight into the top of the net. With this goal, Arsenal took the lead in the tie for the first time. Russo almost scored two more goals later in the match, but both were ruled offside.
Real Madrid also had some chances to score. Before halftime, Filippa Angeldahl took a shot, but Arsenal’s goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar made a great save. In the last few minutes, Linda Caicedo tried to score for Madrid, but Van Domselaar stopped the shot again.
Madrid played well in the first half and stopped Arsenal from scoring early. Arsenal missed some big chances, including one from Caldentey and another from Caitlin Foord. But in the second half, Arsenal put more pressure, and Madrid could not stop them. In the end, Madrid missed their chance to reach their first-ever Women’s Champions League semi-final.
After the match, Russo said that the team felt strong in the first half but needed to be more patient when trying to score. She praised Chloe Kelly for her great assists and said Arsenal could have scored even more goals.
With this amazing comeback, Arsenal now looks forward to their next match against Lyon. They hope to keep winning and move closer to lifting the Women’s Champions League trophy.
