Abdulla Balalaa, the UAE’s Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability, led the country’s delegation at the Petersberg Climate Dialogue in Berlin. This is an important yearly meeting where world leaders discuss ways to fight climate change. During the event, Balalaa joined high-level talks with Germany’s Federal Chancellor and several ministers.
While in Berlin, Balalaa also had a series of meetings with German and international leaders. These discussions focused on the UAE’s commitment to working with other countries on climate action, clean energy, water resource management, and sustainable development.

During his visit, Balalaa met with several important officials, including:
Stefan Wenzel, Parliamentary State Secretary at Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.
Jochen Flasbarth, State Secretary at Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Eva Kracht, Director-General for International Affairs at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety.
Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Discussions on Climate and Energy Cooperation
The meetings covered ways to strengthen global climate action. The leaders talked about how to put the promises made at COP28 into action. They also explored new opportunities for the UAE and Germany to work together on clean energy projects and climate finance.
Focus on Water and Climate Resilience
A key topic of discussion was the UAE’s role in the United Nations Water Conference in 2026, which the country will co-host with Senegal. The meetings highlighted how water plays a vital role in fighting the effects of climate change and building stronger communities.

During the visit, Balalaa said,“The UAE is committed to working closely with global partners to speed up climate action and support the energy transition. Our collaboration with German leaders and the UNFCCC shows our shared goal of creating a sustainable and resilient future for the next generations. Water is key to protecting natural resources and helping communities cope with climate change.”
