Houston won a close game against Purdue, 62-60, in the Sweet 16 round of the basketball tournament. The winning play happened in the last second when Milos Uzan threw the ball to Joseph Tugler, who quickly passed it back. Uzan jumped high and made an easy basket with just 0.9 seconds left. This gave Houston the win and a place in the next round, where they will play Tennessee.
Earlier in the game, Houston was leading by 10 points, but Purdue did not give up. Houston had trouble scoring in the last eight minutes. With only 35 seconds left, Camden Heide made a three-point shot for Purdue, tying the game at 60-60. Houston called a timeout to plan their last play. Uzan tried to score, but his shot missed. Tugler tried to tip the ball in, but it rolled off the rim and went out of bounds. The referees checked the video and gave the ball back to Houston with 2.2 seconds left. Houston then made the winning play, and Purdue had one last chance, but their long shot missed.

Uzan was Houston’s top scorer with 22 points, and Emanuel Sharp added 17. L.J. Cryer, Houston’s usual best scorer, had a tough game, scoring only five points. For Purdue, Fletcher Loyer scored 16 points, and Trey Kaufman-Renn added 14. Braden Smith played well, getting 15 assists, helping Purdue stay in the game. Purdue’s team fought hard, especially since they were playing close to home, with many fans cheering for them. Even though they lost, they had a strong season and showed great effort.
This win means Houston has now reached the Elite Eight round three times in the last five years. In the last two years, they lost in this round as a No. 1 seed, so this victory was important for them. Their next game will be against Tennessee in the Midwest Region final on Sunday. Houston now has the longest winning streak in the country, with 16 wins in a row. The game was also special because Houston played in the same stadium where their 2021 tournament run ended in the Final Four against Baylor.
One scary moment in the game happened when Houston player Mylik Wilson jumped high to catch a rebound and got hit in the air. He spun around and landed hard on his head. He stayed down for a few moments but later got up and kept playing, which was a big relief for his team.
