Sheikh Yas bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan highlighted the importance of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, saying it reflects the UAE’s strong reputation for hosting world-class sports events. He praised both the organizers and competitors for their dedication and hard work.
He stated, "We are proud to have this global event as part of the UAE’s sports calendar, and we look forward to even greater achievements in the future."
Organized by EMSO in partnership with ADSC, the 2025 edition of the event introduced a major change. For the first time in 34 years, the rally started in Al Ain, passed through Al Dhafra, and had its bivouac in Mezaira’a before finishing in Abu Dhabi. This new route redesigned 60 percent of the course, making the event more exciting while keeping its traditional challenge.
The Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge is one of the most prestigious motorsport events in the region. It attracts top drivers and riders from around the world who test their skills and endurance in the demanding desert terrain. The rally remains a key long-distance desert racing event globally.
Since it began 34 years ago, the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge has been an important part of the international rally-raid scene. It was created by Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who is now the President of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the world governing body for motorsports. Over the years, the event has grown into a true test of skill, endurance, and determination.
Since its first race in 1991, the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge has welcomed some of the greatest names in motorsports, including Jean-Louis Schlesser, Stéphane Peterhansel, Nasser Al Attiyah, and Yazeed Al Rajhi. Their participation has helped make the rally one of the most iconic events in desert motorsport history.
