Elon Musk’s latest venture, xAI, is opening its doors to ambitious engineers worldwide. The AI startup, founded with the goal of “understanding the true nature of the universe,” is looking for “hardcore engineers” ready to push the limits of technology. Job openings cover AI research, training infrastructure, robotics, and agentic systems.
xAI recently rolled out Grok-4, its flagship AI model integrated with X Premium+, and is expanding globally to scale both its research and data teams. The company’s ambitious plans include developing more advanced AI agents capable of reasoning and automation.
One of the standout features of xAI is its immense computing power. Musk has revealed the company is targeting 50 million Nvidia H100-class GPUs over the next five years—an infrastructure scale few AI labs can match. Engineers joining xAI will get hands-on experience with cutting-edge hardware that is at the frontier of AI research.
Life at xAI carries the pace and risk of a startup. Reports indicate internal restructuring and leadership shifts as Musk pushes the team to move faster. For many engineers, the fast-moving environment is a draw, offering the chance to contribute directly to breakthrough technologies.
However, not all is straightforward. Wall Street Journal reports highlight internal debates around “Project Skippy,” where employees were asked to sign over rights to their biometric data—faces and voices—for developing AI avatars, including a rumored virtual companion named Ani. Some staff raised concerns about consent and potential commercial reuse of their likenesses, reflecting broader ethical questions in AI development.
Despite challenges, xAI continues to expand aggressively. Applications are open via x.ai/careers, and prospective candidates can even apply directly through X. The company’s mission, blending high-risk innovation with large-scale computing, is attracting engineers eager to be part of one of the most ambitious AI projects today.
