Ajwain, also called carom seeds, is a small spice found in almost every Indian kitchen. Most people use it while cooking to improve taste, especially in snacks and parathas. But apart from cooking, ajwain has been used for many years as a home remedy for stomach problems. Many believe it helps with gas, bloating, acidity, and digestion issues.
To find out if these benefits really work in daily life, I decided to drink ajwain water every night for 21 days. This article explains what changed during those three weeks, how my body reacted, and what people should keep in mind before trying this habit themselves.
Ajwain water is made by soaking or boiling ajwain seeds in water. When the seeds are heated, some of their natural properties mix into the water. Ajwain contains natural oils and compounds that are believed to support digestion and keep the stomach healthy.
People usually drink ajwain water:
At night before going to sleep, or
In the morning on an empty stomach
For this experience, ajwain water was taken every night before sleeping for 21 days.
The preparation was kept very simple and natural.
Method followed:
1 teaspoon ajwain seeds
1 glass of water
Boiled for about 5–7 minutes
Allowed to cool slightly
Drunk warm, without adding sugar, salt, or honey
This same routine was followed every night for three weeks.
In the first few days, changes were mainly noticed in digestion. Ajwain water is known to support the stomach, and this effect was felt early.
Changes noticed in the first week:
Less gas after dinner
Reduced bloating
Lighter feeling in the stomach
Fewer acidity problems at night
Drinking ajwain water before bed seemed to relax the stomach. Heavy or oily meals felt easier to digest, and the uncomfortable tight feeling in the stomach reduced.
By the second week, digestion became more regular. Because stomach problems often disturb sleep, improved digestion also helped improve sleep quality.
Changes noticed in the second week:
Less burning feeling from acidity
Fewer sleep problems caused by stomach discomfort
Better bowel movement in the morning
Less need for digestive medicines
Ajwain water did not act like a fast medicine. Instead, it slowly supported the digestive system and made the stomach feel calmer.
In the third week, the effects became steady. There were no sudden or dramatic results, but overall comfort improved.
Changes noticed in the third week:
More regular digestion
Less heaviness after meals
Reduced craving for late-night snacks
A general feeling of lightness
Some people believe ajwain water helps reduce water retention. While there was no major weight loss, bloating-related weight changes reduced slightly.
Over 21 days, ajwain water also seemed to help with:
Mild stomach pain
Digestion after spicy or oily food
Bad breath caused by poor digestion
Better gut balance
These benefits appeared slowly and gently.
It is important to have realistic expectations. Ajwain water is not a miracle drink.
It did not:
Cause fast weight loss
Cure serious stomach problems
Replace healthy food or exercise
Work the same way every day
Its effect was supportive, not a cure.
Although ajwain water is natural, it may not suit everyone.
People who should be careful include:
Pregnant women
People with stomach ulcers
Those with very sensitive digestion
People taking long-term or strong medicines
Drinking too much ajwain water can cause irritation or dryness in the stomach.
Moderation is very important.
Safe amount:
1 glass per day
Best taken at night or early morning
Drinking more than this is not recommended.
Ajwain water works best when combined with healthy habits such as:
Eating a light dinner
Avoiding very oily food at night
Drinking enough water during the day
Eating meals on time
Without these habits, ajwain water alone may not give good results.
Drinking ajwain water every night for 21 days can gently support digestion, reduce bloating, and improve stomach comfort. It works slowly and naturally, not like a strong medicine.
Ajwain water should be seen as a helpful daily habit, not a treatment. When taken regularly and in the right amount, it may support gut health and improve nighttime digestion.
Everyone’s body is different. What works for one person may not work the same way for another. Paying attention to your body is important.
For those looking for a simple and natural way to support digestion, ajwain water can be a useful addition to a healthy daily routine.
This article is published for general information purposes only. The experiences and observations shared are personal and may vary from person to person. Ajwain water is a traditional home remedy and should not be considered a substitute for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Readers with existing health conditions, digestive disorders, or those who are pregnant or taking medication should consult a qualified healthcare professional before adding ajwain water to their daily routine.
