Suicide blast at Taliban religious school in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa kills 5, injures dozens

A powerful bomb went off inside a mosque at a pro-Taliban school in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region of Pakistan on Friday. At least five people were killed, and many others were hurt. The explosion happened just before Ramzan, the Islamic fasting month. It took place in Akkora Khattak, and the injured were quickly taken to hospitals.

The blast hit Jamia Haqqania, a well-known religious school that has ties to the Taliban. This school is often called the "University of Jihad" because it has educated many fighters and leaders of the Taliban. The school has about 4,000 students who get free food, clothes, and education. Some famous leaders of the Taliban, like Mullah Omar and Jalaluddin Haqqani, studied here.

No group has taken responsibility for the attack yet. The bombing came just before Ramzan, which is expected to start this weekend. The attack has raised concerns about the growing violence in the area, especially since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in 2021. There has been more violence along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border since then.

Pakistan has faced a lot of problems with militancy, and religious schools like this one have been blamed for teaching violent beliefs. The Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan has made things worse, with militants hiding in Afghanistan and attacking Pakistan. Pakistan says the Taliban is not doing enough to stop these militants, but the Taliban denies this.

The Taliban in Afghanistan also condemned the attack. A spokesperson from the Afghan Taliban said that they do not support these attacks and believe the Islamic State (ISIS) group might be behind it. However, no one has officially claimed the attack.

This bombing at the school shows that violence is still a big problem in both Pakistan and Afghanistan, and it continues to threaten the peace in the region.
