Virat Kohli's Heartwarming Revelation About Rohit Sharma: First Time in 15 Years

Virat Kohli revealed that he had never seen "an emotional" Rohit Sharma in their decade and a half-long association until the Indian captain hugged him with welled-up eyes after the T20 World Cup triumph. Kohli shared this heartfelt moment with a packed audience at Wankhede Stadium during the team's felicitation ceremony on Thursday. "This is the first time in 15 years that I have seen Rohit show so much emotion. When we were climbing those steps (at Kensington Oval) he was crying and I was crying," Kohli said during the event, which followed a memorable open bus victory parade.

Standing on the same ground where a 21-year-old Kohli once said it was only fair to carry Sachin Tendulkar on their shoulders after he carried the burden of Indian cricket for 21 years, Kohli, now 35, reflected on his and Rohit's journey. Kohli, who announced his retirement from the shortest format after securing the trophy last week, expressed his hope that he and his captain had carried the burden well enough to bring the 'Cup' home. "I hope we (Rohit and I) have carried the burden and no better place to bring it (the trophy) back here (Wankhede)," he said. Kohli shared that he knew during the innings break of the final that it was his last game. "Halfway through the game I knew it was time to let the next generation take over," he added, a sentiment he had voiced after the final as well.

As the youngest member of the 2011 World Cup-winning team, Kohli had seen legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh, and Yuvraj Singh teary-eyed and soaked in emotion. He confessed that at the time, he didn't fully understand where all that emotion came from, but now he does. "I couldn't connect with the emotions of the senior players who cried that night, but now I do," said Kohli, who is now the elder statesman of the Indian cricket team.

On a lighter note, when program emcee Gaurav Kapoor asked if Kohli would sign a petition to declare Jasprit Bumrah a national treasure, Kohli responded enthusiastically, "I will sign it right now." He praised Bumrah, calling him a once-in-a-generation player and expressing his gratitude that Bumrah plays for India.

Jasprit Bumrah shared his own emotional experience of the victory celebrations. "This ground is really special. Came here as a kid and what I saw today, I have never seen something like this," he said. Seeing the excitement and pride in his young son, Bumrah added, "Seeing my son, I was emotional and I didn't have words. Told my wife that I wanted to see my son (see me playing)."

Outgoing coach Rahul Dravid also expressed his gratitude and awe at the public's love and enthusiasm. "I am going to miss this love. What I saw on the streets tonight, I won't forget it," he said in a hoarse voice, having lost it while cheering through the parade.

The entire event was a testament to the deep bonds and emotional highs that define the journey of these cricketing icons, making it a night to remember for all who were present.
