In a bold step toward transforming scientific research, U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday signed an executive order initiating the Genesis Mission, a government-wide effort to harness artificial intelligence and federal scientific datasets for next-generation technologies.
The mission seeks to integrate the country’s most powerful supercomputers, extensive scientific data, and top researchers into a single collaborative AI platform. By doing so, the administration aims to accelerate discoveries in areas ranging from protein folding to fusion energy, cutting research timelines from years to mere days or hours.
Central to the project is a closed-loop AI experimentation system led by the Department of Energy (DOE). This platform will combine high-performance computing with automated laboratories and AI-driven models to design experiments, simulate results, and generate predictive insights. Such integration promises to streamline workflows and open doors for scientific breakthroughs at an unprecedented pace.
Officials highlight that the Genesis Mission will utilize federal datasets in novel ways, training AI “foundation models” capable of tackling complex scientific problems. The approach emphasizes collaboration across national laboratories, universities, and private research institutions, uniting expertise and computational resources under a single, coherent framework.
The initiative underscores a growing recognition that AI can accelerate innovation, offering solutions to challenges that traditionally required extensive time and resources. Experts suggest that projects like Genesis could redefine how experiments are conducted, making the United States a global leader in AI-assisted scientific research.
