Dubai has once again proven its global leadership in sustainable development, earning the Gold Certification from the United Nations SDG Cities Programme — a recognition that celebrates cities making measurable progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.
The announcement was made at the Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum 2025, hosted at Expo Dubai, where the city was praised for its forward-thinking, human-centred approach to urban governance.
This honour positions Dubai among the world’s top cities in sustainability performance, reflecting its deep commitment to social, economic, and environmental progress. The recognition followed a detailed evaluation of more than 70 global indicators, covering governance, innovation, infrastructure, and quality of life.
Coinciding with this milestone, Dubai also launched its Voluntary Local Review (VLR) — the first of its kind in the region — a comprehensive framework aligning local policies with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The VLR highlights Dubai’s success in integrating sustainability into all aspects of city life, from smart infrastructure and clean energy to digital governance and social well-being.
The Gold Certification acknowledges years of coordinated effort between 13 Dubai government entities, working collectively to ensure that sustainability is not just an idea but a lived reality. The city’s data-driven model and focus on innovation have enabled measurable outcomes, ensuring transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Dubai’s achievement sets a new benchmark in the Middle East for sustainable urban development. With its sights now set on the Platinum Certification, Dubai continues its journey toward becoming one of the world’s most sustainable and livable cities — where progress and people move hand in hand.
