Dubai: The Ministry of Education in the UAE has announced a significant step to protect students and prepare them for the digital future. From the academic year 2025–26, all schools across the country will add cybersecurity lessons to their national curriculum for students from Grade 1 all the way to Grade 12. This move comes as a response to the fast-growing use of technology in everyday life, making it essential for young people to learn how to use the internet and digital devices safely.
Why Is Cybersecurity Education Important?
In today’s world, the internet and digital devices like smartphones, tablets, and computers are everywhere. Students use them for studying, playing, and communicating. But using the internet also comes with risks like cyberbullying, online scams, identity theft, and exposure to harmful content. Without proper knowledge, children and teenagers can easily become victims of these dangers.
The UAE government understands this challenge and wants to prepare the next generation to face these risks wisely. By teaching cybersecurity from an early age, they hope to create a community of digitally responsible and safe users.
What Will Students Learn at Different Grades?
The Ministry of Education has designed age-appropriate lessons that grow with the students' understanding:
Grade 1: Young children will start by learning simple ways to stay safe online. This includes basics like not talking to strangers on the internet, not sharing personal information, and understanding the importance of privacy.
Grades 2 and 3: Students will explore the “digital world” and learn what the internet is, how it works, and why safety is important. They will be introduced to digital citizenship concepts to understand how to behave respectfully and safely online.
Grade 4: At this stage, students will participate in a special STREAM project. STREAM means Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math. This project will include fun and interactive exercises that teach digital self-protection, such as spotting suspicious links or understanding the importance of passwords.

Grades 5 to 8: As students grow older, lessons will become more detailed. They will learn about various cyber threats like viruses, phishing attacks, and how to protect their personal data. The lessons will encourage critical thinking, so students can identify risky online behaviors and respond appropriately.
Grades 9 to 11: High school students will study deeper topics related to networks, internet protocols, data encryption, and online privacy. They will also understand how hackers work and what cybersecurity professionals do to stop them.
Grade 12: In the final year of high school, students will receive a dedicated “Cybersecurity” guide. This will prepare them for further studies in computer science or cybersecurity and introduce career opportunities in the digital security field. It will also teach them how to identify digital threats and handle cyber emergencies responsibly.
How Will This Help Students and Society?
Education experts say that this initiative will strengthen students’ ability to think critically about the information they see online and help them avoid risks like fake news, scams, and harmful websites.
Cooperation Between Schools and Families
Experts and the Ministry stress the importance of teamwork between schools and parents. The concepts taught in classrooms need to be supported at home for better understanding and practice. Families are encouraged to talk to their children about online safety regularly and monitor their internet use to keep them protected.
The UAE’s Vision for a Digital Future
This cybersecurity education program fits within the UAE’s larger vision of becoming a global leader in technology and innovation. The country is rapidly transforming with smart cities, advanced digital services, and widespread use of the latest technology in schools and workplaces.
By equipping students with cybersecurity knowledge from an early age, the UAE is preparing its youth to be confident users of digital tools and contributors to the country’s future success.
