Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the UAE has launched the second edition of the prestigious Great Arab Minds initiative. This program is designed to honor and recognize exceptional Arab individuals whose groundbreaking achievements have significantly contributed to the progress of humanity, both within the Arab world and internationally.

Known as the "Nobel Prize of the Arab World," the Great Arab Minds initiative aims to reignite the Arab world’s historical legacy of innovation, scientific inquiry, and leadership. It acknowledges trailblazing Arab minds who have played a key role in advancing fields such as medicine, engineering, economics, technology, natural sciences, architecture, design, literature, and the arts.

The initiative encompasses six key categories that represent areas of substantial influence, where individuals and institutions can make a profound impact on society. These categories highlight the achievements of Arab talents who have driven progress and enriched knowledge. Nominations for these awards will remain open until October 31, 2024, allowing institutions and individuals to put forward deserving candidates through the Great Arab Minds website.

His Excellency Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the Committee overseeing the initiative, emphasized that the project is grounded in the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. From its inception, the initiative has aimed to serve as an enduring platform that inspires Arab intellectuals, highlights role models, and honors talented individuals who contribute to a broader Arab scientific movement.

Al Gergawi described the initiative as a strategic project, noting that it seeks to elevate the role of Arabs in shaping global progress by promoting values such as partnership, cooperation, and readiness for the future. He added that the initiative celebrates Arab individuals who are not only advancing human knowledge but also serving as role models for future generations. Their accomplishments, whether in research, innovation, or leadership, pave the way for greater Arab contributions to global civilization.

In addition to showcasing the talents of Arab trailblazers, the Great Arab Minds initiative aims to spark a renaissance of intellectual and scientific leadership across the Arab world. Al Gergawi expressed optimism that the second edition will have an even broader impact, as it seeks to reinvigorate the Arab world’s centuries-long legacy of scientific and cultural leadership.

The initiative will honor six winners in this edition, one from each of the six categories, with a prize fund of AED 6 million. Each winner will receive AED 1 million as part of the award. Thousands of nominations are expected from across the Arab region and beyond, as the initiative continues to gain momentum and attract attention from the global community.

Expert judging panels, comprised of leading figures from the UAE, the Arab world, and beyond, will oversee the selection process for each category. These panels will evaluate the nominations based on a comprehensive set of criteria, including the significance of the achievements, the results demonstrated, patents, publications, and research. This rigorous evaluation process ensures that only the most deserving individuals and institutions are recognized.

The second edition of the Great Arab Minds initiative builds on the success of its inaugural edition, continuing to provide a platform for Arab talents to be celebrated and acknowledged on a global stage. With its focus on empowering individuals, inspiring the next generation, and fostering a culture of knowledge and innovation, the initiative is poised to elevate the standing of Arab thinkers and leaders in the global community.

The initiative also serves as a call to academic, cultural, and knowledge institutions across the Arab world to nominate those exceptional individuals whose achievements embody the spirit of progress and innovation. By doing so, the Great Arab Minds initiative is beginning to encourage the return of Arab talents to the region, helping to cultivate a vibrant environment of development, creativity, and forward-thinking.

Ultimately, the Great Arab Minds initiative is a reflection of the UAE's dedication to recognizing and nurturing intellectual and scientific excellence. It stands as a testament to the country's commitment to empowering Arabs to reclaim their historical role in shaping the future, and to celebrate the extraordinary talents whose contributions are transforming both their communities and the world at large.
