In a highly charged ceremony at the White House, former President Donald Trump posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old conservative activist who was assassinated last month. Kirk’s widow, Erika, received the medal on what would have been her late husband’s 32nd birthday.
Trump, 79, described Kirk as a "martyr for truth and freedom," drawing comparisons to historical figures such as Socrates, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., and Saint Peter. "In the wake of Charlie's assassination, our country must have absolutely no tolerance for radical left violence, extremism, and terror," Trump said, emphasizing his commitment to cracking down on groups he labels as radical left-wing.
The White House event was attended by prominent conservative figures and international guests, including Argentinian President Javier Milei. Several conservative media personalities were also present, highlighting the wide attention Kirk’s legacy commands in political circles.

The US State Department confirmed that it had revoked visas for at least six foreign nationals who celebrated Kirk's killing on social media. These posts, according to the department, included derogatory remarks about Kirk, with one German national losing their visa after writing, "When fascists die, democrats don't complain."
Kirk was shot dead on a Utah college campus last month by 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who has been charged with aggravated murder and faces the death penalty if convicted. Kirk, a father of two, had used platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube to reach millions and shape conservative discourse among young audiences. His widow said he “would probably have run for president” if he had not been assassinated.
The ceremony reflected both grief and political resolve, with Trump pledging to "end the era of angry mobs" and restore safety in cities across the United States. The tribute not only celebrated Kirk’s work but also sparked renewed discussion about political polarization and violence in America.
