Overnight, Russian military forces executed devastating strikes in Ukraine, resulting in the deaths of 12 individuals and targeting crucial energy installations while peace negotiations are underway. In the Kharkiv region, one drone hit a passenger train loaded with approximately 200 passengers, causing at least five deaths. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko condemned the offensive via social media, as President Volodymyr Zelensky labeled the attack on civilians as "unacceptable."

Photos depicted the scorched remnants of the train, with firefighters confirming the blaze was under control. In Odesa, more than 50 Russian drones were used in an assault, leading to three deaths and over 30 injuries, affecting a pregnant woman and two young children. Odesa, an essential port for Ukrainian exports, has been frequently targeted.

President Zelensky called upon international allies to intensify pressure on Moscow, stating that these assaults jeopardize ongoing diplomatic dialogues. Recent US-facilitated peace talks in the UAE have sparked optimism for resolving the nearly four-year conflict, with another discussion set for February 1.

Russian strikes also resulted in significant damage to numerous residential properties, schools, and places of worship throughout Ukraine. Several civilians lost their lives in the eastern Donetsk and southern regions of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, leaving millions in dire conditions without heat during the frigid winter.

The Ukrainian air force reported an alarming tally of 165 drone sorties overnight, including hits in the western Lviv area. State gas provider Naftogaz confirmed that one of its facilities in western Ukraine had been ignited, marking the fifth assault on energy infrastructures this month.

At the same time, Russian troops are gradually advancing, having seized two additional villages in the Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv regions, as per the Russian defense ministry.

The ongoing conflict is entering its fourth year, with escalating tensions and substantial losses on both sides, leaving civilians vulnerable. The global community is watching vigilantly, hoping that negotiations can avert further bloodshed.
