A heated confrontation after a cricket match ended tragically in Bengaluru, resulting in the death of a 33-year-old man due to a drunken altercation, according to police reports.
The incident involved Prashanth (33) and Roshan Hegde (37), who became embroiled in a fierce argument after playing in a cricket tournament in Electronics City. Investigators revealed that the two were drinking beer behind a mall when a small disagreement flared into a violent dispute.
What started over a cigarette lighter rapidly escalated into a physical confrontation. The men exchanged harsh words, shoved each other, and eventually struck one another with beer bottles, leading to an injury on Hegde's tongue.
Following the fight, Hegde attempted to drive away in his Tata Safari SUV, while Prashanth pursued, standing on the vehicle's front footrest and continuing their argument. Police claim that Hegde accelerated intentionally towards Prashanth.
Seconds later, Hegde crashed the SUV into a roadside tree and then into a compound wall. The violent collision resulted in significant head and chest trauma for Prashanth, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The incident was captured on the SUV's dashboard camera, which proved crucial for identifying and tracking the suspect. In light of this evidence, authorities have filed a murder case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Hegde, an IT employee, was apprehended within an hour of the incident. The vehicle involved has been confiscated, and an extensive investigation is currently in progress.
