In a shocking act of racial violence, a Texas woman was sentenced to five years in prison for attempting to drown a 3-year-old Palestinian-American girl at a local swimming pool in May 2024. The attack, fueled by racial bias, drew nationwide condemnation and highlighted growing concerns over anti-Muslim incidents in the U.S.
Elizabeth Wolf, 43, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and injury to a child. She was sentenced by Judge Andy Porter after waiving her right to a jury trial. Court records show the attack unfolded at an apartment complex pool in Euless, Texas, when Wolf confronted the girl’s mother and questioned the family’s origin.
According to police reports, Wolf tried to drown the toddler and reached for her 6-year-old brother. The mother intervened, pulling her daughter from the water. Both children were treated by medics and released without serious injury.

This case comes amid a troubling wave of hate-motivated incidents targeting American Muslims, Arabs, and Jews following escalating violence in the Middle East. Other recent attacks include the stabbing of a 6-year-old Palestinian-American boy in Illinois, assaults on Palestinian-American adults in Texas, and mob attacks on pro-Palestinian protesters in California. Anti-Israeli incidents, such as shootings of Israeli visitors in Florida and attacks on embassy employees, have also raised alarms.
Legal experts say such convictions send a clear message that racially and religiously motivated violence will be met with severe consequences. While the wounds of the Euless incident are deep, the swift legal action offers a sense of accountability and underscores the ongoing need to address hate crimes in communities across the nation.
