Almost every one of us has a memory of a teacher who helped us in a special way. Maybe they explained a difficult lesson until we understood it, or maybe they gave us the courage to speak in front of the class. Some teachers make such a strong impact that we remember them for life.
Teachers’ Day is a time to thank those teachers. It is a special day to show respect to the people who spend their lives teaching, guiding, and shaping students into better people. From big city schools to small classrooms in villages, teachers are the real heroes behind every successful student.
Teachers’ Day is celebrated in different parts of the world on different dates. In India, it is observed every year on September 5th, which is the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was a great teacher, thinker, and also the second President of India. He believed that teachers deserve great respect in society.
On the other hand, World Teachers’ Day is celebrated on October 5th, in over 100 countries, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This day was started by UNESCO in 1994 to recognize the role of teachers around the world.
Even though the dates are different, the purpose is the same: to thank and appreciate teachers for their hard work and care.
Being a teacher is not just a job. It is a responsibility. A teacher does not only teach subjects like math, science, or English. A teacher also helps students learn good values, discipline, and how to behave kindly with others.
Teachers do many things for us:
They guide us when we are confused
They support us when we feel low
They push us to do better in studies and in life
They inspire us through their honesty and dedication
During the COVID-19 pandemic, when schools were closed, teachers did not stop teaching. Many of them quickly learned how to use online tools and continued their classes from home. It was not easy, but they made sure their students kept learning.
This shows that teaching is not just a profession — it truly comes from the heart.
Teachers’ Day is one of the most exciting days in schools. Students plan different ways to make their teachers feel special.
Here are some common ways that schools celebrate this day:
Students perform songs, dances, and short plays
Older students take the role of teachers for one day and take classes
Classrooms are decorated with flowers, charts, and thank-you messages
Small gifts or cards are given to teachers with love
In the UAE, many schools go a step further by organizing:
Teacher appreciation events
Workshops to help teachers learn new skills
Awards and certificates for teachers who do outstanding work
Special messages from school heads and students to show gratitude
Many students and teachers feel a strong bond with each other. Their stories show how powerful a teacher’s support can be.
Fatima Khan, a Grade 10 student from Dubai, says:
“I used to be shy and scared to speak in class. But my teachers encouraged me to take part in debates and activities. Now, I feel more confident. They never gave up on me.”
Mr. Ahmed Raza, a science teacher from Sharjah, shares:
“When an old student visits and says ‘thank you’, it means the world to me. It shows that I’ve made a difference in someone’s life. That’s why I love teaching.”
These simple words remind us that being a teacher is not just about books. It’s about helping students grow, dream big, and believe in themselves.
While Teachers’ Day is the perfect time to say thanks, showing respect to teachers should happen every day. Teachers feel appreciated when students:
Listen carefully in class
Finish their homework on time
Behave kindly and with manners
Say “thank you” for their efforts
Respect doesn’t always need big gifts. Even small actions can mean a lot.
In today’s world, things are changing fast. We have the internet, apps, and even robots. But still, nothing can replace a good teacher.
Teachers are not just people who give us facts. They also teach us how to:
Think clearly
Ask questions
Solve problems
Choose what is right
Technology can assist, but only a teacher can understand your feelings, support you when you're struggling, and celebrate with you when you do well.
Teachers’ Day is more than a celebration. It is a reminder of how important teachers are in our lives. They help build the minds of tomorrow.
So, this Teachers’ Day, let’s take a moment to say “thank you” to every teacher who has made a difference. A card, a kind word, or even a smile can mean a lot.
