Gene Hackman's daughter speaks out on his health before death

Gene Hackman, the famous actor, and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead in their home in New Mexico on February 26. They were discovered along with their dog, who had also passed away. A neighbor called the police for a welfare check because they hadn’t heard from Arakawa for a few weeks.

When the police arrived, they found Gene Hackman’s body near the kitchen, and Betsy Arakawa was in the bathroom with some prescription pills around her. The deaths are being looked into as suspicious, but officials have said they didn’t find signs of a crime.

Leslie Hackman, Gene’s youngest daughter, spoke to the Daily Mail about her father’s health. She said that even though Gene was older, he was in "very good physical condition." She explained, “He liked doing Pilates and yoga, and he did it several times a week. So, he was healthy.”

However, Leslie also said that her father’s memory had been getting worse. She told Us Weekly, “He recently had a birthday, and his wife had to remind him three times that it was his birthday.”

Leslie said she was close to her father, but she hadn’t seen him in a couple of months because she lives in California. She said everything seemed normal when they last talked.

Leslie also thought that carbon monoxide poisoning could have caused their deaths, but no gas leaks were found. She said that if that was the cause, she hoped her father didn’t suffer and passed away peacefully.

The cause of death has not been confirmed yet by the police. They said Gene and Betsy had been dead for at least a day before they were found. The investigation is still going on.

Leslie and her sister Elizabeth confirmed their father’s death in a statement. Gene Hackman had three children—Leslie, Elizabeth, and Christopher—with his first wife, Faye Maltese. They were married from 1956 to 1986. He then married Betsy Arakawa in 1991.
