India and Ethiopia Forge Groundbreaking Strategic Partnership

On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, India and Ethiopia solidified their bond by establishing a strategic partnership. Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Abiy Ahmed Ali explored new realms of cooperation in vital sectors such as economy, technology, defence, health, and education.

In their momentous discussions, PM Modi revealed plans to double scholarships for Ethiopian students in India, recognizing Ethiopia's role in supporting India's fight against terrorism.

PM Ali indicated that India stands as the largest investor in Ethiopia, with over 615 Indian enterprises flourishing in the country. Both leaders underscored their mutual interests and the importance of South-South cooperation, which is set to unveil fresh avenues for progress.

During this visit, PM Modi also delved into Ethiopia’s rich cultural heritage, engaging in a traditional coffee ceremony and exploring Friendship Park and the Science Museum. The Indian community in Addis Ababa warmly welcomed him.

On December 17, PM Modi will deliver an address at Ethiopia’s Parliament, discussing the significance of the India-Ethiopia partnership for the Global South. This visit is part of a broader three-nation tour that includes stops in Jordan and Oman.
