Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) unveiled their 16-member squad for the forthcoming three-match T20I series against India on Tuesday, July 23. The highly anticipated series will commence on July 27 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele, where the two neighboring teams will clash.

In a significant change, Charith Asalanka has been appointed as Sri Lanka’s new captain. This decision follows the resignation of all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who stepped down from the role after the team’s underwhelming performance in the T20 World Cup held in June 2024. Asalanka brings valuable captaincy experience, having led Sri Lanka in two T20Is during their tour of Bangladesh earlier this year while Hasaranga was suspended.

The newly announced squad reflects a balance between youth and experience. Notable inclusions include Hasaranga and Matheesha Pathirana, who are expected to play pivotal roles. However, veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews has been omitted from the squad, while former captain Dasun Shanaka has been retained. Dinesh Chandimal, who was excluded from the T20 World Cup squad, has also been included in the current lineup.
