Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Careem, the leading multi-service app in the region, have celebrated a significant milestone: the completion of 7.35 million bike trips since the launch of Careem Bike in 2020. This initiative has quickly become the largest pedal-assist bike-sharing network in the region, offering residents and visitors an eco-friendly transportation option.

Since its inception, Careem Bike has expanded its presence across Dubai’s extensive cycling tracks, with 197 stations now available, providing approximately 1,800 bikes for rent. In 2023 alone, users made over 2.3 million trips, representing an impressive 66.3% increase in total trips compared to the previous year. This surge in usage highlights the demand for bike-sharing services, particularly for first- and last-mile journeys, which accounted for 76% of all trips taken.
The collective distance covered by Careem Bike users since the service's launch is an astounding 28.4 million kilometers. The longest single trip recorded was 48 kilometers, traversing from Quranic Park in Al Khawaneej to the Marina Promenade. Among the trips, residents made up 68%, while tourists contributed 32%.
Careem Bike not only promotes convenience but also aligns with sustainable transportation goals. By encouraging cycling, the initiative significantly reduces energy consumption and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Since 2020, the rides have resulted in a CO2 savings of over 4.32 million kilograms, equivalent to the emissions produced by 1,208 cars.
Hussain Al Banna, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, emphasized that reaching this milestone reflects the government's commitment to promoting sustainable transport and developing a bicycle-friendly environment throughout Dubai.
Bassel Al Nahlaoui, Managing Director of Mobility at Careem, expressed his enthusiasm for the achievement, noting, “We’re thrilled to cross such an incredible milestone as more and more people choose to get around Dubai by bike. Our partnership with the RTA has enabled us to expand Careem Bike across Dubai’s key business districts, residential areas, and retail hubs. In just four years, Careem Bike has emerged as the leading bike-sharing initiative in the region, thanks to the strong support from the RTA.”
Launched with the aim of supporting Dubai's sustainability agenda and encouraging active lifestyles, Careem Bike has since expanded to Abu Dhabi and Madinah in Saudi Arabia, with further regional expansion planned.
For those looking to rent a Careem Bike, users can easily download or open the Careem app and select ‘Bike’ from the home screen. New users can enjoy 50% off their first day pass by using the code RIDE50, while Careem Plus members receive an unlimited 30% discount on one-day passes for a nominal monthly fee of AED 19.
