The 79-year-old Congress leader, Sonia Gandhi, was taken to a hospital in Delhi on Monday evening after experiencing mild respiratory difficulties. Sources from the hospital confirmed the admission was mainly precautionary due to her long-standing issues with chronic cough and bronchial asthma.
Medical professionals have indicated that the recent drop in temperature and elevated pollution levels in Delhi have led to a minor worsening of her bronchial asthma. She has been prescribed antibiotics along with supportive care, and she is reportedly reacting positively to the treatment.
Officials at the hospital confirmed that Gandhi is under the careful observation of a chest specialist. 'Her condition is stable, and we are monitoring her closely. Discharge will depend on her recovery, which we anticipate will be within a day or two,' stated the chairman of the hospital.
This hospitalization follows previous health issues; in June 2025, Gandhi was admitted for a severe stomach infection and was released after four days. She also underwent a routine check-up at a Shimla hospital that confirmed she was in good health.
Authorities have reaffirmed that her current stay in the hospital is a routine measure aimed at safeguarding her health in view of her medical background. Family and party colleagues have been kept updated, and hospital officials have reassured that there is no immediate need for concern.
Gandhi is receiving thorough care and is expected to fully recuperate while being closely observed. Medical staff will continue to monitor her condition until she is ready for discharge.
