In a proud moment for the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai, personally visited and reviewed the progress of the Etihad Rail project. Not only did he inspect the project, but he also took a historic ride on one of the new passenger trains, traveling from Dubai to Fujairah. This ride marked a special milestone in the country’s journey towards building a modern and connected railway system.

A Visionary Journey from Dubai to Fujairah

Sheikh Mohammed’s train ride between Dubai and Fujairah was more than just a symbolic trip. It was a clear message that he is deeply involved in the country’s development. By choosing to personally review the project and take part in this special journey, His Highness showed his commitment to the UAE’s growth and his interest in projects that serve all parts of the country, not just the big cities.

This train journey also reflects the country’s national goals. The government wants to build infrastructure that not only connects places but also improves the daily lives of the people. With this rail project, the UAE aims to bring people closer, improve transport, and help communities across the country stay connected in a better and faster way.

Why the Etihad Rail Project Is So Important

While speaking during the visit, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed said that the Etihad Rail project is one of the most important infrastructure projects ever launched in the UAE. He explained how this railway network will not only help with moving people and goods but will also boost the country’s economy and social development.

In his words, “Etihad Rail is a vital economic artery that supports the UAE’s journey to the future.” This means that the railway will become a major part of the country’s plan to grow and develop. It is seen as a core part of the UAE’s vision to become a strong and smart logistics center in the region.

More Than Just a Railway: A Symbol of Unity

Sheikh Mohammed added that the project is more than just a mode of transport. It is a symbol of the UAE’s unity. It represents how all the Emirates are connected through common goals. He also said that this railway supports the UAE’s aim to create a better quality of life for everyone. Whether someone lives in a big city like Dubai or a smaller town, they should feel equally included and connected.

The Etihad Rail project also shows how serious the UAE is about protecting the environment. Since the trains will be electric and eco-friendly, the railway supports the country’s plan to reduce harmful emissions and reach its target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

A Moment of Pride for Everyone Involved

During the visit, Sheikh Mohammed was welcomed warmly by the Etihad Rail team. He was given a detailed update on the progress of the project, how it’s being built, and what milestones have already been achieved. The team shared their pride in being part of something so big and meaningful. They said that having His Highness join the journey was a historic moment that gave them even more motivation to continue their work.

Saeed AlAhbabi, Chief Business Support Officer at Etihad Rail, along with other senior members of the company, were present during this visit. They showed great respect and excitement in hosting Sheikh Mohammed.

Words of Gratitude from Sheikh Theyab

Another important voice during the event was His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Chairman of Etihad Rail. He is also the son of Sheikh Mohammed. He said they were honored to host his father on the train and thanked him for his constant support.

Sheikh Theyab reminded everyone how far the project has come. He mentioned the ‘Projects of the 50’ announced in 2021, the start of freight train services in 2023, and now, the nearing launch of passenger train services. According to him, all these steps are building a stronger, more united, and more connected UAE.

What's Next: Opening in 2026

The passenger train system is expected to officially begin service in 2026. Once it starts, it will provide people with a reliable, fast, and comfortable way to travel between cities. Some of the first stations will be located in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Fujairah. These stations will serve as major hubs where people can begin or end their journeys.

The trains are designed to be fast and safe. They will run at speeds up to 200 kilometers per hour and each train will carry up to 400 passengers. By the year 2030, it's expected that around 36.5 million people will use the trains every year.

Benefits of the Etihad Rail Passenger System

This railway system brings many benefits to the UAE:

  • Better Travel Options: People will have a new, clean, and fast way to travel between Emirates.

  • Less Traffic: With more people using trains, there will be fewer cars on the road, which means less traffic and lower pollution.

  • Tourism Boost: The train will make it easier for tourists to travel between cities and explore more of the country.

  • Economic Growth: As travel becomes easier and faster, businesses will grow, and new job opportunities will open up.

  • Social Unity: People from different Emirates will find it easier to meet, connect, and share ideas, bringing everyone closer together.

A Model for the Region

The Etihad Rail passenger project is one of the most ambitious transport projects in the region. It is not only helping connect cities, but it is also setting a new standard for how future transportation should be—clean, fast, safe, and comfortable.

The project is a clear example of the UAE’s leadership in modern transport. It shows how a nation can dream big, plan well, and work hard to make life better for its people.

A Bright Future for UAE's Railways

Etihad Rail continues to prepare for the launch of its passenger service with great care. The goal is to make sure everything runs smoothly when the trains start carrying people. Every detail—from station designs to the comfort of the trains—has been carefully planned.

As the UAE moves forward with this huge project, it is proving once again that it is a country that believes in progress, unity, and taking care of its people. The Etihad Rail project is a gift not just for today but for generations to come.

With visionary leadership, strong teamwork, and a clear goal, the UAE is building a transport system that will make travel easier, safer, and more enjoyable for everyone. And that’s something all Emiratis can be proud of.
