Sharjah, UAE: His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the 18th session of the Sharjah Children’s Shura Council and the 9th session of the Sharjah Youth Shura Council on Sunday at the Sharjah Consultative Council headquarters. The session was launched under the slogan “Serving the Community is Leadership.”
In his speech, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed said the councils operate under the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, with strong support from Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi. He praised the children and youth of Sharjah and expressed pride in their participation.
He explained that the slogan reflects the importance of responsibility and participation, adding that Sharjah trusts its young generation to discuss important issues and contribute ideas for the development of society and the nation.
The Deputy Ruler emphasized that membership in the councils is not just honorary but a real responsibility and learning opportunity. He said the councils help young members develop dialogue skills, teamwork, respect for opinions, and leadership abilities.
He also highlighted that nearly 20,000 voters participated in electing council members, showing strong community support and belief in youth participation in decision-making.
Sheikh Sultan encouraged members to express their views responsibly, participate actively in discussions, and present practical recommendations for the future of Sharjah. He congratulated them and wished them success in their parliamentary journey.
The opening ceremony began with the UAE national anthem and Quran recitation, followed by the oath-taking of 60 members of the Children’s Shura Council and 80 members of the Youth Shura Council.
Hamid Saeed Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Children’s Shura Council, thanked the leadership for empowering children and giving them a platform to contribute to society. He said children’s opinions are important for building a better future and promised dedication and loyalty to the nation.
Hamad Mohammed Ibrahim, Chairman of the Youth Shura Council, said youth are key partners in development and will work to turn ideas into real initiatives that serve the community. He thanked Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed and Sheikha Jawaher for supporting youth leadership.
The councils aim to strengthen parliamentary skills among young people and promote dialogue, responsibility, and community participation. The initiative reflects Sharjah’s vision of investing in human capital and preparing future leaders.
The event was attended by senior officials, including Sheikh Majid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Sheikh Saud bin Sultan Al Qasimi, and Sheikha Jawaher bint Abdullah Al Qasimi, along with other government representatives.
