In a move reinforcing UAE–Armenia relations, the Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) welcomed a senior Armenian diplomatic delegation to its headquarters this week to launch a new leadership development and educational cooperation initiative. The initiative aims to deepen collaboration across education, culture, media, and governance sectors, raising the diplomatic and developmental profile of both nations.
The meeting was led by Dr Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the SCC, and attended by prominent council members, including Sheikha Ali Al Naqbi and Sheikha Aldhain Al Naqbi, who head key committees on education and youth affairs. The Armenian delegation was headed by Artak Avetisyan, Consul General in Dubai, and Anna Matevosyan, Assistant Consul General.
During the discussions, they emphasized the strong historical ties connecting Sharjah and Armenia and reaffirmed their commitment to forging a future built on mutual respect and strategic partnership. Key topics included exchange programmes, cooperative training frameworks, cultural diplomacy efforts, and parliamentary engagement initiatives. The SCC highlighted Sharjah’s ambition to become a global hub for cultural‑human interaction—a vision supported by UAE leadership.
A cornerstone of the talks centered on launching joint leadership-development programmes aimed at enhancing governance competency, professional training, and human capital growth. The move aligns with parallel work by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and its Sharjah Training and Development Centre (STDC), which have expanded international training partnerships — including with institutions in Europe and South Korea.

Sharjah’s administration emphasized the importance of cross-sector cooperation. They proposed hosting joint cultural events, student and faculty exchanges, and media collaborations to promote mutual understanding. Armenia’s delegation also expressed strong interest in collaborating on cultural heritage preservation, particularly given Sharjah’s historical work in restoring Armenian churches in Armenia.
The SCC and the Armenian mission agreed to formalize cooperation through memoranda of understanding. The initial phase will focus on leadership workshops, structured mentorship programmes, and possibly scholarships. There are plans to host Armenian‑Sharjah cultural and academic conferences, showcasing both nations’ strengths in education and innovation .
Experts believe this collaboration marks a significant expansion in UAE‑Armenia ties, moving beyond diplomacy to practical capacity building. It mirrors other recent initiatives—such as STDC’s strategic leadership programmes in partnership with European education bodies.
Looking ahead, both sides hope to set a template for small‑state, high‑impact partnerships where strategic investment in human capital and culture drives sustainable growth. The proposed leadership programme will be closely watched as a test of upside potential in bilateral education diplomacy.
This collaboration adds momentum to Sharjah’s vision as a knowledge and culture capital, offering a genuine platform for future Emirati and Armenian leaders to learn, network, and forge shared success—echoing the Emirate’s brand as a centre of meaningful global partnerships.
