A dedicated team from the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology at the University of Sharjah has initiated the conclusive testing phase of Sharjah Sat-2 during an official trip to the Netherlands. This critical step marks a significant milestone as preparations intensify for the CubeSat's anticipated launch scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.
The delegation's visit to ISISPACE, a renowned firm specializing in CubeSat development and integration, focused on the final assembly, integration, and testing stages vital to a satellite launch. Engineers meticulously examined all systems to ensure their proper functioning and safety in the space environment.
During these evaluations, the team assessed power systems, safety modes, and communication tools to guarantee that the satellite can effectively receive ground commands and transmit data seamlessly. Additionally, the flight software was analyzed to ensure readiness for launch operations, confirming operational stability once in orbit.
The delegation also examined sophisticated testing facilities, including a thermal vacuum chamber simulating the extreme conditions of space—ranging from harsh temperatures to vacuum environments. They reviewed vibration tests designed to replicate the intense forces during launch, ensuring the satellite’s structural Integrity.
Furthermore, the team participated in technical meetings and a workshop focused on international manufacturing and inspection standards. They evaluated quality control processes, documentation, and component assessments to ensure compliance with required space mission regulations.
Sharjah Sat-2 boasts a multispectral imaging camera with the capability to produce high-resolution Earth images, capturing details as precise as five meters. The satellite's data will enhance Earth observation, urban planning, environmental management, natural resource oversight, and disaster response in Sharjah while bolstering local expertise in space technology, particularly in sectors like agriculture and coastal protection.
