The Ramadan Majlis organised by Sharjah Press Club (SPC), affiliated with the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), continued its 15th edition with a second session focusing on self-development and mindful living.
Titled “How Do We Become the Best Version of Ourselves and The Path to Staying Calm,” the session highlighted the importance of protecting personal identity, maintaining daily balance, and building self-awareness in today’s fast-moving world.
The event was held at Aljada in Sharjah and was attended by His Excellency Tariq Saeed Allay, Director General of SGMB.
Among the attendees were His Excellency Mohammed Khalaf, Director-General of Sharjah Broadcasting Authority (SBA); Her Excellency Alia Al Suwaidi, Director of SGMB; Her Excellency Marwa Al Aqroubi, Executive Director of House of Wisdom; and Dr. Saeed Musabah Al Kaabi, Member of the Board of Trustees at University of Al Dhaid. Several officials, media professionals, and members of the public also attended the session.
The discussion featured Emirati writer and poet Awad Al Darmaki and Kuwaiti writer and content creator Mshari Bodraid. The session was moderated by media professional Abdul Raouf Amira from SBA.
Awad Al Darmaki spoke about the fast pace of modern life, explaining how rapid changes now influence consumer habits and workplace culture. He stressed the need to reconnect with simple aspects of life to regain inner peace and balance. Referring to the ideas of Egyptian thinker Abdel Wahab Elmessiri, he warned against measuring human value only by productivity and consumption. He highlighted the importance of ethical and spiritual awareness, and encouraged pride in identity, language, and traditions. He also noted the important role of media in preserving and promoting local culture.
Mshari Bodraid focused on personal growth, saying it begins by avoiding constant self-criticism and comparison with others. Instead, he encouraged continuous self-improvement based on strong personal values. He said that values are the foundation of long-term success and stability. He also advised people to take time for reflection whenever they feel disconnected, as core principles help individuals stay grounded during changing times.
The session concluded that success is different for each person and depends on individual goals and beliefs. It cannot be measured by fixed standards but by personal progress. The speakers emphasised that psychological balance comes from having clear goals and aligning life’s responsibilities with personal values.
The evening also included interactive activities, a question-and-answer session, and audience competitions with prizes sponsored by Grand Stores. Organised by SPC, the Ramadan Majlis will continue at Aljada until 26 February, following Taraweeh prayers.
